“A Very Dark Chapter in Human History”

A surgeon who has volunteered in Gaza has criticized the international community for not intervening against Israel’s genocide and total blockade of Gaza.

Dr. Mohammad Tahir stated that the “gradual dehumanization of the population in Gaza – and in Palestine in general – has made it possible for Israel to kill tens of thousands of civilians without consequences.”

“No one is even trying to hide anymore that humanitarian aid is being used as a weapon to achieve political goals,” he told Al Jazeera. “This is not a claim – it is an admission. There is nothing to debate.”

Since the beginning of the year, over 9,000 Palestinian children have been treated for malnutrition. According to Tahir, it is currently especially vulnerable children with chronic illnesses who are dying, but if the total blockade continues, even more will be killed.

“How can the world allow this to happen? We are in a very dark chapter in human history.”

UN: Over 423,000 Palestinians Displaced in Gaza – “With No Safe Place to Seek Refuge”

The UN warned on Thursday that humanitarian efforts in Gaza are severely limited as Israeli attacks across the region continue to escalate. More than 423,000 Palestinians have once again been displaced – “with no safe place to seek refuge.”

“The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warns that relief work is severely hindered by strict movement restrictions inside Gaza, as well as by Israeli military operations and attacks that endanger both aid workers and their facilities,” said UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric at a press conference.

He explained that “recent attacks have struck residential areas where many displaced people are sheltering – particularly in Rafah and eastern Gaza City.”

According to the UN’s partners, it is estimated that “more than 423,000 people have been displaced again – without any possibility of finding a safe place to stay.”

Dujarric added that there is a lack of basic necessities, and that Israeli attacks on aid convoys as well as looting are becoming increasingly frequent.

“At the same time, our personnel on the ground have been unable to retrieve the last reserves of vital fuel, as they are located in areas that require coordination with Israeli authorities,” he said. “Since mid-April, eight out of nine such requests have been denied by the Israeli authorities.”

Regarding the situation in the occupied West Bank, he said: “Today marks 100 days since Israel launched an operation in the northern parts of the West Bank, which has resulted in widespread death, injuries, destruction, and displacement.”

Around 40,000 Palestinians in the area remain displaced and are unable to return home.

Brazil Demands Complete Israeli Withdrawal from Gaza

Brazil’s foreign minister has condemned Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza as “unacceptable.”

“It is necessary to ensure a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, the release of all hostages and prisoners, and access for humanitarian aid,” said Mauro Vieira during a meeting of the BRICS countries’ foreign ministers in Rio de Janeiro.

Brazil has assumed the presidency of the economic cooperation organization for 2025.
